SECTION 3 – PRIOR APPROVAL
3.1 PRIOR APPROVAL REQUIREMENTS
3.1.1 Introduction
Prior Approval is tentative approval based on the information presented. Such approval is subject to reversal if subsequent inspection of materials and/or Dealership records does not support the claim.
Ford Motor Company requires prior approval for various types of repairs and components. Please refer to the latest Company publications released on FMCDealer.com. to understand the current Warranty Prior Approval Requirements. Dealers are responsible to be aware of the current Prior Approval Requirements
All dealers must have Company approval before making certain repairs or submitting certain claims or inquiries. The dealer is responsible for obtaining and documenting authorization when required. Authorization does not exempt the dealer from complying with the warranty and policy provisions outlined in this Manual, including price and time verification.
IMPORTANT: Obtaining Prior Approval does not exempt a claim from being adjusted, reviewed, returned for More Information or audited via the Warranty Counselling Process.
There may be instances where Prior Approval is not granted. These instances include, but are not limited to:
- The component exceeds the time and/or mileage limit for warranty coverage. In these cases, it’s feasible that direction will be provided for the Dealer to submit a goodwill request under CT38 or CT39.
- An inspection or additional information provides sufficient evidence that the concern is not warrantable and that the claim should not be approved.
- The Prior Approval is requested after the repair has already been completed (known as a Post Approval request). In these instances, the Company reserves the right to reject the Post Approval request and deny the claim, or adjust the claim amount down (for example, Ford may choose to pay only the material cost portion of the claim).
NOTE: A Prior Approval request must be submitted prior to the repair being carried out.
