SECTION 1 – DEALERSHIP ADMINISTRATION

1.3 WARRANTY PARTS RETENTION AND RETURN POLICIES

1.3.10 Shipping Large Components on a Pallet

Due to environment and safety concerns on engines being returned to Ford, dealers must either use the container in which the new or remanufactured/ reconditioned component was delivered in or strap the engine/transmission securely to a pallet. Everyone in the supply chain should cooperate to achieve safety, including the sender.

Therefore, please ensure that your engine (or transmission) is secure and safe. Guidelines are provided below.

To ensure the safety of employees, the following control measures should be taken:

  • Drain the fluids from the component and wrap in plastic (if necessary) to prevent leaking during transportation. If the fluids are not drained, they can leak, contaminating other freight, trailer/truck beds and create a slip hazard.
  • Fit protective plugs and caps where appropriate. Any residual fluid must be contained using caps and plugs to prevent contaminating other parts in storage (especially air conditioning parts). WARPEC / PRC will charge an Environmental Levy for assemblies that are returned without being fully drained of fluids.
  • The engine should ideally be fastened to the pallet by at least a ratchet strap. Professional style plastic or steel banding with at least 2 bands is acceptable. All straps and bands should be protected where they touch the engine to prevent chafing/sliding. If they are not securely fastened to the pallet, they may detach and damage other freight during transportation.
  • IMPORTANT: Fastening to the pallet with rope, shrink wrap, tape, straps that are not secured, or plastic/metal bands that have not been affixed by a machine or are not tight ARE NOT acceptable methods. Acceptable alternatives are industrial standard plastic straps or steel banding that are available for purchase. Polypropylene Strapping Kits are inexpensive and can be procured locally.
