Section A – Warranty Policy Manual
A.3 WARRANTY COVERAGES
A.3.14 Battery
A.3.14.1 Introduction
This section contains information on the New Vehicle Warranty, Service Part Warranty Coverage and Hybrid Coverage by battery and vehicle type.
Batteries within warranty coverage, service-installed, or over-the-counter which are defective and will not hold a charge must be replaced with an equivalent Motorcraft or Ford approved battery.
IMPORTANT: Vehicles with engine start-stop technology require a unique battery (AGM or Enhanced Flooded Battery) in order to handle the additional current draw cycles from frequent restarts. Installation of an incorrect battery in a vehicle that is equipped with engine start-stop technology will void the battery warranty.
The Company’s warranty and policy coverage for labour, towing if needed, and related damage for production-installed batteries also applies to retail service-installed batteries except as noted in this Manual or other Company publications.
IMPORTANT: All battery warranty replacement claims in the Warranty Claiming System (except for the Hybrid High Voltage Battery) must have supporting documentation as per WSM (414-00 Charging System - General Information-Diagnosis and Testing).
NOTE: Please refer to Warranty Parts Retention and Return Policies for battery retention and return policies.
A.3.14.2 Battery - New Vehicle Limited Warranty coverage
Dealer Requirements for Battery Handling / Recharging:
- Proper storage and maintenance of vehicle batteries is the Dealer’s responsibility.
- Check the battery condition within three (3) working days of receipt of the vehicle. Test results must be retained with the vehicle records. If found necessary to recharge the battery within this period, the cost is reimbursable from the Company at the scheduled time to remove, charge and replace the battery. After three (3) working days the responsibility for battery maintenance becomes that of the Dealership unless directly attributable to a defect in factory materials or workmanship.

Batteries within warranty coverage, either original equipment (production installed), service installed, or over-the-counter which are defective and will not hold a charge must be replaced with an equivalent Motorcraft or Ford approved battery if parts warranty is to be applicable.
